This morning I saw a pair of male flickers in a standoff? They postured like bitterns, clucking and moving their heads in robotic fashion, about a foot apart. They were so intense they didn't back down for a Stellar's jay or a gray squirrel. Then they chased each other around the yard in similar fashion, one of them spreading his wings like a killdeer. I assume that was just territorial posturing but it was wonderful to watch. They're still flying around the yard and the trees...
