Mann Lake east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID is still sadly low on
shorebirds. On 22 September, Remko Duursma reported a single SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER and a BONAPARTE'S GULL. To get there from the north end of
Lewiston, follow US 12 south into town, cross the Clearwater River on
Memorial Bridge and immediately take the first left (east) toward East
Lewiston. Turn left (east) onto East Main Street and go about a half mile
to the flashing yellow lights. Turn right (south) onto Lapwai (a.k.a.
Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right on Lindsay Creek Road
(Nez Perce County Road 460) and follow it about 5 miles to its terminus at
Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east) onto Grelle Avenue and just past the sharp
right curve, turn left (east) onto East Powers Avenue (a.k.a. Lapwai Road).
Continue straight (east) past the grain towers to the main parking lot. ID
DeLorme 54, A-1.

Three to four CATTLE EGRETS were reported in Kootenai Co ID on 15 September.
The birds were seen and photographed along the new bike trail between
Harrison and Medimont, with the birds seen on the south side of the trail
about 5 miles east of Harrison. An easy easy way to get to them would be via
Spingston Bridge. ID DeLorme BC-1.5

On 16 September a GREAT EGRET, was flying through the marsh SW of Hardy Loop
off of Canyon Road near Cataldo, Kootenai Co, ID according to Stephen
Lindsay. Canyon Road runs north of I-90 between exits 34 and 40. ID DeLorme
60, B-3.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen with a large flock of White-crowned
Sparrows in West Spokane, Spokane Co WA on 22 September by Matthew Moskwik.
To reach the location, head west on Sunset Blvd. Turn right on Basalt Road.
Continue on Basalt for 100 yards and turn right on Bonnie. About 50 yards
later the road forks. The bird was in the brush immediately to the east of
this fork (between the two roads).

A BLUE JAY was 5 miles south of Moscow, Latah Co ID on 22 September. I saw
the bird near the intersection of US 95 and Eid Road, flitting in the
willows next to the sewage treatment ponds.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at
208.883.0943. If you see any of the birds mentioned in this report, be sure
to let me know.

Good birding.
