Greetings All,

A few notes from Confluence State Park and Walla Walla Point Park in
Wenatchee.

Parasitic Jaeger...one juvenile was seen flying along the shoreline of the
Columbia River as well as out in the middle of the river at the state park.
The bird was seen in the section of the river from just north of Walla Walla
Point Park to the boat lauch at the state park. This bird a
light/intermediate
morph. This looks like a first for Chelan County. Parasitic Jaegers have now
been seen in at least 10 of eastern Washington's 20 counties [Ken and Laurie
Knittle's County Comparison Compilation, 2001]

American Pipit...a flock of eleven were on the shore of the pond at the
northeast corner of Walla Walla Point Park. One of these birds is a partial
albino. In flight I thought it was a Snow Bunting but when it landed the
bird transformed into a pipit.

Black-crowned Night-Heron...three were seen at the Horan Natural Area in the
evening: an adult, a second year and a hatch year, all nicely pictured in
Sibley.

At the small bay along the Columbia River at the south end of the state park
and viewed from Walla Walla Point Park were several Horned Grebes and a
juvenile
Eared Grebe. The Eared Grebe had a dark cap and white cheeks just like the
Horned Grebes. The only way to differentiate this bird from the Horned
Grebes was looking
at structural diffferences: the Eared had a rounder head, a thinner bill,
slightly upturned.
This plumage is not pictured in Sibley and has been mentioned previously in
Dennis
Paulson's remarks about that guide. I first noticed this plumage while
watching Eared
Grebes at the Reardan Ponds in Lincoln County a few years back.

Eurasian Collared-Dove...I have not seen the bird at the state park since
early September.

Good Birding,
