Hi Everyone--

Looks like a young (not juvie) Horned Lark to me. Just-out-of-the-nest Horned Larks do look a lot like a bunting, black with lots of buff scales; they're pretty friendly and approachable in summer at Second Burroughs Mountain in Mt. Rainier NP. Fortunately for us, the only lark in the world that looks anything like a Horned Lark is Temminck's Horned Lark (Eremophila bilopha), which has a restricted range in North Africa east to Iraq and doesn't migrate much.
