While walking to work this morning in Olympia, I was surprised to see a
Townsend's Solitaire flitting about in several ornamental trees in the
neighborhood just south of the Capitol complex (on Washington and 19th).
It was a bit jumpy, but I was still able to get close enough to recognize
(without binoculars) the eye-ring, white outer tail feathers, buffy
underwings marks, etc. Actually, the bird reminded me a lot of an Old
World cuckoo-shrike.
