This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday,
April 1st, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured bird is MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD.

Sightings for Monday, April 1st

The 2 male and 1 female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were again reported from Boundary
Bay Regional Park near the concession stands.

A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was observed at Q.E. Park.

>From Iona came the report of 2 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, a CLIFF
SWALLOW, and a singing NORTHERN SHRIKE. A male AMERICAN KESTREL was seen
along Ferguson Rd. near the stables.

Sunday, March 31st

The 3 MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were reported from Boundary Bay Regional Park, also
a bird thought to be a LONG-BILLED CURLEW. The WILLET was at the Tsawwassen
ferry jetty.

A SAY'S PHOEBE was seen near the rowing pavilion at Burnaby Lake.

A BARN OWL was at Bear Creek Park in Surrey.

In New Westminster, near 8th Street and 3rd Avenue were 4 TURKEY VULTURES.
Nearby, at the New Westminster Quay was a MERLIN.

At Campbell Valley Regional Park in Langley were 5 VIRGINIA RAILS, a BARRED
OWL, an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER and a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD.

Eurasian GREEN-WINGED TEALS continue to be seen at Elgin Heritage Park in
South Surrey.

Saturday, March 30th

A SAY'S PHOEBE was seen near the waterfront at Spanish Banks, about 600
meters west of the last west concession.

In Stanley Park, at Lost Lagoon, a very pale gull, thought to be either an
ICELAND GULL or an albino of another gull species was seen. Further
confirmation is requested.

Near 47th and Vine in Vancouver was a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER.

YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS are being seen throughout the Greater Vancouver area.

Blackie Spit was the location for a WESTERN GULL and an EARED GREBE.

Two PEREGRINE FALCONS were at Brunswick Point.

Highlights from Reifel Bird Sanctuary were a PEREGRINE FALCON, a MERLIN, an
AMERICAN BITTERN, a GREAT-HORNED OWL, 4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, a BROWN-HEADED
COWBIRD, a SAVANNAH SPARROW and 2 RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS.

At Campbell Valley Regional Park was a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT.
