Hello Tweeters,

Today, in my backyard here in Elma, I've had lots of visitors in between the snow and rain. Yes, we had a nice snow shower early this morning but no accumulation. I also took a quick trip down to Vance Creek County Park. Here's what I've seen today:

Backyard:
Steller's Jay
Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
American Robin
Spotted Towhee
'Sooty' Fox Sparrow
Song Sparrow
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (an occasional visitor under my feeders)
White-crowned Sparrow
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco

At Vance Creek County Park and surrounding area:

Pied-billed Grebe
Western Grebe
Double-crested Cormorant
Mallard
Greater Scaup
Osprey (2 adults are actively re-building their nest)
American Coot
Immature gull species
Tree Swallow
Violet-green Swallow
Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon's)
Pine Siskin
American Goldfinch (first ones of the season for me)

Also just past (heading west) the main parking area of the park on Wenzel Slough Rd., there is a large pond on the left side of the road. Between the pond and the road is a grassy field with some gravel areas. In this grassy area, I have been consistently finding Killdeer and Wilson's Snipe. The snipe are real good at seeing you before you see them. This morning I tried to spot them before they flushed to no avail. I only flused two but I'm sure there were more since in the past I've seen at least ten in that field.

Good birding,
