The following birds were observed by Wayne Weber at Point Roberts,
Whatcom County, WA between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM on April 5, 2003.

Light rain occurred during the first 30 minutes of observation,
otherwise there was no precipitation. The wind averaged about 15 to
25 km/hr from the south to southwest, sufficient to make it hard to
see birds on the water offshore. However, the wind was hardly
noticeable away from the shoreline and did not hamper observations
inland.

Areas visited were Lighthouse Marine Park, the west end of Gulf Road,
Edwards Drive, APA Road, Lily Point and vicinity, and Pauls Road.

The single BONAPARTE'S GULL, seen flying offshore, was an early
arrival. Also noteworthy was the PILEATED WOODPECKER seen on top of a
telephone pole on Pauls Road, on which it was drumming. Although at
least one pair of Pileateds is resident on the Point, I see them
infrequently, and almost never on a telephone pole away from heavy
timber!

Mammals recorded were six HARBOR SEALS hauled out on rocks off Lily
Point, and one DOUGLAS SQUIRREL heard calling near Lily Point.
