Hi Tweets:

Even though it was a dark, cool, breezy Sunday morning at Spanaway Marsh
(near Lake Spanaway on Hwy 7), bird song abounded. I don't know how many
Ruby-crowned Kinglets there were (a lot) but they were seen singing
everywhere. A few Orange-crowned Warblers sang as did a Cassin's Vireo,
Purple Finch, chickadees, Bewick's and Winter Wren, juncos, and Song Sparrow.
I saw 3 Red-breasted Sapsuckers, Belted Kingfisher, Red-breasted Nuthatch,
Golden-crowned Kinglet, and heard Virginia Rail. The Yellow-rumped Warblers
not only sang but showed off their bright, fresh plummage. Two Rufous
Hummingbirds were gathering cattail fluff for nests. I also heard a Ruffed
Grouse four times. There was a red-shafted Northern Flicker with a crescent
on the back of his neck, easily seen as it drummed. Brown Creeper, Downy
Woodpecker and Golden-crowned Sparrow put in appearances, too. Of course,
there were geese, ducks and swallows. By noon it was as though there wasn't
a bird to be heard or seen. 42 species

On the home front, a Fox Sparrow and Varied Thrush linger and the Long-tailed
Weasel has found a home in the hollow base of a cedar tree near the house.
Managed to get a picture of eye-shine.
