Hi all,

My wife (who is a nonbirder but enjoys wildlife/nature) and I are
visiting Seattle next week. I would like to try and see some of the
NW specialties, as I've never been closer than E. Idaho. My
birding time will be limited, but we will have a car. We are staying
in downtown Seattle, but we are hoping to make day trips to the
Olympic Peninsula or, if it's not totally snowy, Mt. Rainier. We
have no pretensions of any extensive hiking, but will the roads be
open around Rainier at all?

I would love to get suggestions of a few places where I might have
a chance at, among others, the following:

Alcids (any of 'em)
Gulls (can I get Glaucous-winged in the harbor itself?)
White-headed Woodpecker
Red-breasted Sapsucker
Gray Jay
Owls (any of 'em)
Northern Goshawk
Common Merganser
Wandering Tattler
Black Oystercatcher

And really, anything else.

Advice on which, if any, of these are possible to get at this time of
year, and where I might do so w/o dragging my wife on some
soggy odyssey (I love those, she doesn't), would be most
appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

-Sandy
