This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Tuesday,
April 8th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured bird is MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD

Sightings for Tuesday, April 8

Two male MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were observed at Boundary bay Regional Park.
Also reported from the Park were 3 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS and a HORNED LARK.

At Elgin Heritage Park in Surrey were 2 Eurasian GREEN-WINGED TEAL and 3
EURASIAN WIGEON.

RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS are being reported throughout the Lower Mainland.

Monday, April 7

A female CASSIN'S FINCH was seen near the observation tower on the dike at
Grant Narrows RP. Two OSPREY have started nest building activities on the
dolphin offshore from the observation tower. Also seen at the Park were a
BARN SWALLOW and NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW. To the south of the Park
along Neaves Rd. near the Alouette River was an AMERICAN KESTREL.

A MARBLED GODWIT was observed at the foot of 12th Ave. at the Beach Grove
Lagoon.

Sunday, April 06

The arrival COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was reported from Colony Farm RP. A RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRD was also reported from this location.

Seen in over flight at Burnaby Lake RP was a SANDHILL CRANE.

Two AMERICAN KESTREL were seen on 52nd near Hwy #17 in Tsawwassen.

Saturday, April 5

The WILLET was observed along the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

SAY'S PHOEBE was seen in the afternoon in the NE field at Maplewood CA.
Another SAY'S PHOEBE was reported about 1 ? km SE of the Burnaby Lake Rowing
Club House. This may be the same bird reported in late March.

A SAY'S PHOEBE was also reported in Whistler along the walkway at Alpha
Lake.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was observed near the tennis courts near Stanley Park
's Lost Lagoon. A PEREGRINE FALCON was also observed near Lost Lagoon.

>From Point Roberts came the report of a BONAPARTE'S GULL, 5 RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRDS, and 2 BAND-TAILED PIDGEONS.

A HORNED LARK was reported at Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen.

At the Reifel Refuge was a female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD.

Friday, April 4

A LONG-BILLED CURLEW was seen at Boundary Bay RP.

Thursday, April 3

Three SANDHILL CRANE were observed in a field on Byrne Rd. south of Marine
Way in south Burnaby.
