I noticed a flock of 55 DOWITCHERS this afternoon, with 3 DUNLIN,
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, AMERICAN WIGEON and MALLARDS along State Street,
Salem,
just southeast of the I-5 underpass by the School District offices.
They
were feeding vigorously in a small (less than 1 acre), possibly
artificial
seasonal pond in a rather urbanized area -- the kind of wetland the
Feds are
calling "isolated" and may classify as too unimportant to protect
anymore
