Great story, Rob. Jim and Joan Burbridge (RIP) used to use this technique with a fly rod and a phony mouse to reel in Pygmy Owls in the Kelowna area of southern BC in the 1960s and 70s. Seems it doesn't really have to be a real live mouse to get an owl's attention.
