Hi Everyone--

Marcia Marvin and I took an afternoon today 4/13 to wander the NW corner of
Clark County. We stopped for a look around at Pekin Ferry (on the other side
of the Cowlitz River is Dike Road in Cowlitz County), walked around the
southern end of Allen Canyon, and walked the Oaks to Wetlands Trail at the
Carty Unit of Ridgefield NWR. Highlights were a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD
constructing a nest along the Oaks to Wetlands Trail, an ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLER and a HERMIT THRUSH along a private driveway on Pekin Ferry Road,
and two singing male PURPLE FINCHES ornamenting treetops and visible from a
remarkable distance (one at the Carty Unit parking lot, the other along
Pekin Ferry Rd.). Erythronium spp. (White Fawn Lilies, I think) are in
bloom now along the Oaks to Wetlands Trail.
