Seeking citizens to help guide Hanford cleanup

OLYMPIA- Anyone who is interested in helping guide and shape the cleanup at
Hanford is invited to consider serving on the Hanford Advisory Board.

The board provides crucial public review and advice on efforts by the
Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology), U.S. Department of Energy
and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clean up the extensive
nuclear and chemical contamination at Hanford.

Presently, two public-at-large positions on the board are vacant. There are
a total of 31 members, representing a mix of the diverse interests that are
affected by Hanford cleanup issues, with four of those positions reserved
for "public at large" members.

Hanford Advisory Board membership is a volunteer position and requires a
significant commitment of time, including six two-day board meetings per
year and up to nine committee meetings per year. Travel expenses can be
reimbursed, but not time lost from work.

Anyone interested in applying or nominating someone for one of the two
vacant public-at-large positions can fill out the application online at
http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/nwp/habnom.htm or call the Hanford Cleanup
Line at 800-321-2008 to receive the forms.

The deadline for receiving the applications is 5 p.m. on April 18.

Ecology and EPA will review nominations and applications, then recommend
individuals for appointment.

For more information, please contact Max Power at 360-407-7118, Dennis Faulk
at 509-376-8631 or Yvonne Sherman at 509-376-6216, or call the Hanford
Cleanup Line at 800-321-2008.
