Hiya tweets! It was a pretty nice day in Seattle when I got off work at the zoo today, so I went home, grabbed my bins and headed down to the Montlake Fill. As it turns out, it was my best day ever for number of species seen at the Fill in one day - 55 species! Well, a couple of them are sub-species (Cackling Goose; 2 races of Yellow-rumped Warbler), but still. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon. Considering the number of "usual suspects" I didn't see today(no Towhee's, no Killdeer, no Common Snipe, no Marsh Wren), I'm sure a lucky day could put me over 60. Soon after I got out today, I ran into a fellow zooie, Tom Aversa. I told him I really wanted to see the American Pipits that I see Connie Sidles posting about all the time. He had to run, but when I saw him a 2nd time, with another keeper friend from the zoo, they had just seen some Pipits over by the central pond. So I headed over there and got my first look at this quite, drab yet cryptic bird. Those little buggers ar!
e hard to see! Around the same time, I also saw 3 pairs of Brown-headed Cowbirds, the first of the year for me. Anyway, here is the full list (they are in Kenn Kaufmann order, not taxonomic. Sorry, but it's the only book handy!) 55 species and sub-species list for 04/16/03, Montlake Fill, Seattle, WA: Mallard
