This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Wednesday,
April 16th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for Wednesday, April 16

The WHITE-TAILED KITE was not reported today.

Two OSPREY were seen at Minnekhada Park along with a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE.

Close by at the DeBoville Slough was a GREEN HERON.

Tuesday, April 15

The WHITE-TAILED KITE was seen on and off from 6:30 AM till 3:00 PM at Deer
Lake RP. in the open field between the west end of Deer Lake and Royal Oak
Rd.

An Osprey was reported over Hawthorne Park in Surrey.

Monday, April 14

A WHITE-TAILED KITE was discovered around 5:30 at Deer Lake RP. The bird
was seen in the open field east of Royal Oak Rd.

The MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were again reported from Boundary Bay RP.

Seen at Vancouver's Cecil Green Park were 2 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE.

Observed at Iona were 7 RING-NECKED DUCKS and 4 CINNAMON TEAL.

At Colony Farm were a NORTHERN SHRIKE, MERLIN and an AMERICAN BITTERN.

Three LONG-BILLED CURLEW were seen at the base of the Roberts Bank Jetty.

Several BARN SWALLOWS and 2 EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL were seen at Elgin
Heritage Park in Surrey.

Sunday, April 13

A MARBLED GODWIT was seen on the shoreline off Beach Grove Lagoon at the
foot of 12th in Tsawwassen. Also seen at Boundary Bay RP were a female
MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD, HORNED LARK and 2 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS.

A PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER was again reported from the 2200 block of W-7th.

At Burnaby Mountain Park were a TOWNSEND SOLITAIRE and a HERMIT THRUSH.

Another HERMIT THRUSH was reported at Stanley Park's Prospect Point.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was present at Maplewood.

COMMON YELLOWTHROATS are being reported throughout the Vancouver Area.

Saturday, April 12

Two SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and a EURASIAN WIGEON were seen in a field near
the Boundary Bay Airport.

Another SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen at Boundary Bay RP. Also reported
from this area were several BONAPARTE'S GULLS, a female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD,
several AMERICAN PIPITS, a WESTERN MEADOWLARK and a HORNED LARK.

Observed at Burnaby Mountain Park were the TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE and a female
PINE GROSBEAK.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Sea Island near MacDonald Rd. At Iona were a
WHIMBREL and 11 BONAPARTE'S GULLS.
