Looked out the kitchen window this AM to a mass of
seething dark Blue!! There were between 11 and 13
(hard to count exactly!) Stellar's Jays below, around,
and on my bird feeder! I've never seen such a large
group around here! Quite the sight!
Does anyone know if the young from last year would
still be hanging around with their parents? Was this
maybe several family groups that just happened to
gather together for a short time at my feeder? There
did not seem to be any territorial squabbling going
on. Does anyone know if Stellar's exhibit the same
group nesting behaviour (older sibs help parents raise
the next brood the following year) as Mexican Jays and
Florida Scrub Jays?
Whatever the reason, it was quite amazing!
