My wife and I were having a late lunch around 2:30 this afternoon at
Steamer's restaurant at Titlow Beach park in Tacoma. I looked out the
window at the nest boxes attached to the old ferry dock pilings and wondered
when the Purple Martins would return for the summer. Then I looked up and
saw an Osprey hovering over the water, not far from shore. It hovered there
for 20 or 30 seconds, then dove into the water, and came up with a rather
small fish. It immediately took off flying south down the shoreline, being
harrassed by a couple of gulls.

This is the first time I have seen an Osprey at Titlow in the many years
I have been birding there. It seemed odd to see it in an urban environment
like that.
