hi tweeters~
this afternoon, on hwy 262, just west of potholes st. park, kendrick wong
and i saw a first-of-the-season (for us, anyway) light morph SWAINSON'S
HAWK. we found it perched on a telephone pole, then watched it soar right
above the field in front of us. its kiting lasted for several minutes,
allowing good views of its dark head, rufous bib, and white belly. it was a
wonderful treat to see this stunning bird, which i've always admired, not
only for its beauty, but also for its determination and fortitude. i know
these guys travel thousands of miles to get here!
