Dear Tweeters, I forgot to mention it in my earlier post on birding on the North Cascades Highway--two Barred Owls responded to my imitation of a pygmy owl on Saturday. This was on April 19, up on SR 20, just north and west of Swift Creek, Skagit County. It is the section of highway east of Easy Pass. This area looks as if it might have been good for Spotted Owls, although I am not sure if the elevation would have been right. At any rate, I had not found any Strix owls in that vicinity before, and now it looks as though there is a pair of Barred Owls. Bad news for the Spotted Owl again, I'm afraid.

Yours truly,
