Thank you to all who had suggestions for keeping squirrels out of my many
planter boxes and pots. Most everyone suggested using screening of some
sort as a deterrent. One person suggested blood meal. I bought a box of it
and tried this first. For two days the Douglas squirrels have avoided
digging. I'm not sure this will continue, but I will hope so. One comment:
blood meal is a complete nitrogen fertilizer which isn't the ultimate for
flowering plants so I just sprinkled it very thinly on the top of the soil.
I see that it is recommended as a deer repellent (fill a sock full and hang
it near whatever they eat!). Thanks again!!
