Dear Michael and Tweeters, Yes, I have seen such an open-air Black-capped Chickadee nest. About ten years ago, a pair of BCCH fledged some young from a nest in the very top of a small stub, near the mouth of the Baker River in Concrete. I wondered at the time why the birds would choose a nest site that offered protection from wind but not rain.
