...............Drove around River- S unit of Ridgefield NWR----Vancouver,
Wash. Observer the following:
...............Ducks: RINGNECK DUCKS; 1 CANVASBACK; SHOVELERS; LESSER
SCAUP; RUDDY DUCKS; BUFFLEHEADS; GREEN-WINGED TEALS; GADWALLS; CINNAMON
TEALS; AM . WIDGEONS; PIED-BILLED GREBES; MALLARDS; AND.......9 WOOD
DUCKS perched on a log in the wetlands just north of Rest Lake
(.......and loads of COOTS!!!!!).
................Hawks and owls: HARRIER and RED-TAILED HAWKS (2 had a
brown tail, and 1 red); several baby HORNED OWLS in a nest (.....didn't
see 'mama' at the time.); and 1 OSPREY circling overhead.
...............Shorebirds: 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a flock of
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS moving from 'place to place' several times.
...............Perching and swallow-like birds: SWALLOWS (BARN, TREE,
CLIFF mainly); RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS; 2 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS;
BREWERS BLACKBIRDS, zillions of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS; 2 COMMON
YELLOWTHROATS; BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES; SAVANNAH SPARROWS; SONG SPARROWS
; ROBINS; and GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS.
..............*Billions* of the migratory CANADA GEESE. Large "clouds" of
noisy geese moving overhead were awesome!!!
..............And then there was the GR. BLUE HERON struggling to swallow
down a large garter snake, which he ultimately did.
..............Light showers finally caught up with me as I left at 7:30 pm.

..............Earlier in the day SORAS; 1 PELEATED WOODPECKER; a BITTERN;
and COMMON SNIPE were reported seen, but decided not to make themselves
visible when I passed by.
