This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Monday, April
21st, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in Vancouver
and North Vancouver.

The Rare Bird Alert continues for the WHITE-TAILED KITE. Other featured
birds are AMERICAN AVOCET and a bird resembling a WHITE or BLACK-BACKED
WAGTAIL.

Sightings for Monday, April 21

The WHITE-TAILED KITE again thrilled birders at it's location in the fields
around the Swan-e-set GC driveway. A total of 6 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES were
seen at the Swan-e-set parking lot. There are reports of 12 or so
SOLITAIRES in the Pitt Meadows area. North of Swan-e-set were 4 WESTERN
MEADOWLARKS. Six TURKEY VULTURES were seen on the ground in a field near
Rennie Rd. and Ladner Rd.

A bird seen briefly in a field near 33A Ave. & 34 St. in Delta had all the
characteristics of a WAGTAIL, either a BLACK-BACKED or WHITE. Further
confirmation of this bird is requested. It was seen in association of a
flock of 200+ AMERICAN PIPITS. Also observed here were a female SNOW
BUNTING and 25 LEAST SANDPIPERS.

A SEMIPALMATED PLOVER was observed from the Roberts Bank Jetty. Two MARBLED
GODWITS were again seen at the compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen Ferry
Jetty.

An AMERICAN AVOCET was reported near the 2nd observation tower at Serpentine
Fen.

Sunday, April 20

The WHITE-TAILED KITE was reported for most of the day near Swan-e-set GC.
Seen in the same area was a SANDHILL CRANE. Three TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE were
seen at the Swan-e-set parking lot.

Reported from various locations at Grant Narrows RP were 5 OSPREY, 2
VIRGINIA RAIL, 2 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, and a singing WESTERN MEADOWLARK.
Another 4 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were observed along the Koerner Rd. Dike
several km south of the park.

A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was seen along the south trail at Deas Island RP.

At Colony Farm RP was a SORA.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was sighted at the Maplewood CA.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was reported in the 8400 blk of 165A ST. in Surrey.

In ornamental trees near Stanley Park's Lost Lagoon was a NASHVILLE WARBLER.

Seen along the Ravine Trail at Campbell Valley RP were a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER
and a HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER.

Two MARBLED GODWIT were seen at the compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen
Ferry Jetty. Also seen from the Jetty were 3 CASPIAN TERNS.

Saturday, April 19

The WHITE-TAILED KITE was seen from approx. 7:45 till 5:00 PM in the fields
near the Swan-e-set Golf Club driveway. Also seen on the east side of the
road was a SANDHILL CRANE. A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was sighted along Rennie
Rd. and another 4 were observed in the parking lot of the Swan-e-set GC.
AMERICAN KESTRELS were also present with a possible 7 birds being seen.

Reported from Reifel were a female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, a TOWNSEND'S
WARBLER and a blue phase SNOW GOOSE. Nearby along Tamboline Rd. was a
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE.

Five MARBLED GODWIT and 2 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were seen on the north side
of the Tsawwassen Jetty.

An OSPREY and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK were seen at Deer Lake RP.
