Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday April 23. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

Warblers and flycatchers are now arriving. BROWN PELICANS and CASPIAN TERNS
are being seen all along the coast and the first large flocks of SOOTY
SHEARWATERS were reported during the week. An early HEERMANN?S GULL was at
Gold Beach April 17.

Three PALM WARBLERS are still on the North Spit of Coos Bay and another is
in North Bend. A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was on the North Spit April 16. A WESTERN
KINGBIRD was near Coos Bay April 21. A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at the South
Jetty of the Siuslaw River April 20. A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was along
Fenk Road near Tillamook April 20. Twenty MARBLED GODWITS and 35 WHIMBREL
were along Wireless Road near Astoria April 22.

A LONG-EARED OWL was off Rentenaar Road on the east side of Sauvie Island
April 19. PURPLE MARTINS were back on the Island the next day. A TOWNSEND?S
SOLITAIRE, A HAMMOND?S FLYCATCHER and a CASSIN?S VIREO was at Mt. Tabor in
Portland April 23. On April 19 a BLACK?CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was at
Brightwood, east of Sandy.

BLACK-NECKED STILTS were reported during the week at the Fernhill Wetlands
in Forest Grove, Jackson bottom in Hillsboro, near Baskett Slough NWR, Fern
Ridge Reservoir, and at the Kirtland Road Sewage Ponds in White City.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was at Detroit Flats, east of Salem April 19. A flock of
18 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS was along Livermore Road north of Baskett Slough
NWR April 23. A WESTERN TANAGER was at Fern Ridge Reservoir April 21. Over
150 VAUX?S SWIFTS entered the chimney at Agate Hall in Eugene the evening of
April 19. A GOSHAWK was at Eugene April 20.

A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was at the Kirtland Road Sewage Ponds April 17. On
April 21 six BONAPARTE?S GULLS, two WHIMBRELS, and three GREATER SCAUP were
in Grants Pass. On April 20 a BLACK-HEAD GROSBEAK, an ASH-THROATED
FLYCATCHER and several BULLOCK?S ORIOLES were at Grants Pass. A WESTERN
KINGBIRD was at Jacksonville April 20.

FRANKLIN?S GULLS were back at Lower Klamath NWR April 16. A BAIRD?S
SANDPIPER was at the Redmond Sewage Ponds April 22. A large nesting colony
of TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS is back at the Barnes Butte Road Marsh north of
Prineville.
