I have also experienced night singing in winter wrens and house finches. It
seems to go on for about an hour between 9 and 11 pm, typically in April
although according to my field notes, it also has shown up in Varied
Thrushes in February and Winter wrens in May. I have often puzzled over
this and wondered if this is caused by overcrowding or some other reason. We
have a ton of winter wrens in my woods, and house finches, bolstered by
feeders, seem to be very numerous as well.

Subject: Night-singing White-crowned Sparrows

For the last week, we have had one White Crowned Sparrow singing his
heart out in total darkness at about 11:00 PM. The only light is a
street lamp 100 feet away. Seems unusual?
