Today I made a quick hike through Olympia's Watershed Park. I was hoping
for some arrivals, but only heard one PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER. No warblers
at all, but did hear some RED CROSSBILLS flying by (this is a pretty
reliable spot for the species). The most exciting part of the hike was
hearing at least one BARRED OWL (most likely a pair, but there was much
moving about) and a GREAT-HORNED OWL. It sounded as though the GH OWL heard
the BARRED'S making some contact calls and then came in to lay down the law.
There was a lot of noise then, the jays came in from all over and sent the
trio? on their way...or at least shut them up. There was a successful
nesting last year by the BARRED OWLS and it seems like there will be
again...unless the G/Horned has something to say about it.

Where are those Wilson's Warblers? I saw them reported last week by Mike
Patterson, wonder if this weather is keeping them down south.

Good birding
