This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Thursday,
April 24th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured bird is GREY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH.

Sightings for Thursday, April 24

A GREY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH was seen on the Tsawwassen Jetty on the south side
near the boat launch area.

A BLACK-THROATED GREY WARBLER was seen near the Beach Grove School yard.

At 64th at Boundary Bay was a MARBLED GODWIT.

Large numbers of AMERICAN PIPITS were observed at 34A Ave., 72nd St. and 57B
Ave.

Reported from Reifel were a sub adult WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, HAMMOND'S
FLYCATCHER & a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER.

Wednesday, April 23

Two TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES were seen near the bridge at the Maplewood CA.

Seen from River Rd. in Ladner were a SNOW GOOSE and an AMERICAN BITTERN.

Tuesday, April 22

In the fields near 33A Ave. & 34th St. in Delta seen with a flock of 150
Pipits were 3 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 2 SNOW BUNTINGS.

There is still 1 Eurasian race GREEN-WINGED TEAL at Elgin Heritage Park in
Surrey.

Seen at Colony Farm RP was a WESTERN MEADOWLARK.

At the Katzie Marsh at Grant Narrows RP were 4 MUTE SWANS.

Observed several km south of Grant Narrows RP were 4 TURKEY VULTURES and a
singing CASSIN'S VIREO.

Out in the valley along the Chilliwack Lake Rd. was a singing BLACK-HEADED
GROSBEAK.

Monday, April 21

The WHITE-TAILED KITE again thrilled birders at its location in the fields
around the Swan-e-set GC driveway. A total of 6 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES were
seen at the Swan-e-set parking lot. There were reports of 12 or so
SOLITAIRES in the Pitt Meadows area. North of Swan-e-set were 4 WESTERN
MEADOWLARKS. Six TURKEY VULTURES were seen on the ground in a field near
Rennie Rd. and Ladner Rd.

A bird seen briefly in a field near 33A Ave. & 34 St. in Delta had all the
characteristics of a WAGTAIL, either a BLACK-BACKED or WHITE. Further
confirmation of this bird is requested. It was seen in association of a
flock of 200+ AMERICAN PIPITS. Also observed here were a female SNOW
BUNTING and 25 LEAST SANDPIPERS.

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was observed from the Roberts Bank Jetty. Two
MARBLED GODWITS were again seen at the compensation lagoon on the Tsawwassen
Ferry Jetty.

Two BLUE-WINGED TEAL were seen near on Boundary Bay opposite the mansion.

An AMERICAN AVOCET was reported near the 2nd observation tower at Serpentine
Fen.
