Birders,

Don Cecile alerted me to a new, slightly competetive, "twist" on the
big-sit. The Battle of the Towers was apparently started in Finland. It will
take place on May 3...this Saturday. Either by yourself, or in a small team,
you find a viewing platform from which you can see or hear many birds. The
"battle" starts at 5 AM and lasts until 1 PM. You can only count any birds
you get from the tower. If you jaunt off to use the bathroom, you cannot
count the birds. There are apparently teams taking part in Finland, on
Vancouver Island, the Yukon Territory and here in the Okanagan. I just
wanted to extend a welcome to any other teams or individuals who wish to
take part in this friendly competition. I am going to be perched on the top
floor of the Vaseux bird blind and I believe Don Cecile will be at the
Salmon Arm viewing platform. If anyone does take part, please forward your
results to me at c_charlesworth23 at hotmail.com so I can forward them to Don
Cecile.
