Subject: NW Crow vs. American

Hi all,

My wife and I recently spent a very enjoyable week in Seattle.
Despite my wife being a non-birder, she let me make a couple of
brief outings, and I really enjoyed your area. Having said that, I
have a question re: id of NW Crow vs. American Crow. Sibley
states that the two birds are distinguishable only by range. Is this
true in general, and if so, at what point does one cross into territory
populated by unambiguously identifiable NW Crows? (I know there
are supposed to be differences in vocalization, but I am frankly not
familiar enough with your crows (whose calls are different from ours
back East) to say which was which based on voice alone.)

Thanks,

-Sandy
