Yesterday evening, Alan & I took the Puffin cruise from Pt. Townsend around
Protection Island. I was surprised to see 4 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES fly a short
distance out of the path of the boat as we approached the island from the NE.
Has anyone ever seen Red Phalaropes in there? They were not on the species list
provided. Although these birds were in between plumages, I did get a good enough
look at the backs to convince me they were truly RNPH.

And, yes, we did have 7 (possibly more) of the beautiful Tufted Puffins, with
tons of other alcids, and Pelagic Cormorants, and a buck deer, seals, eagles....
This is a good trip (great scenery, too) for people with a difficult stomach or a
need for extra heat. There are a few more trips coming up if you're interested.
Info: (360) 385-5582. [No, I don't have any connection with these trips.]
