Shorebirds are the news....

On 3 Aug at Medicare Beach [aka Perch Point gravel pit] on Potholes
Reservoir, Grant Co WA, Doug Schonewald reports a RUDDY TURNSTONE and 4
BLACK-NECKED STILTS. Earlier in the week at this location, Doug, along with
Dave Beaudette found a single SANDERLING, 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 20
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 29 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER, and a
single SEMIPALMATED PLOVER. At Lind Coulee, Grant Co WA, they saw most of
the same species, along with 4 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Potholes Reservoir is
southeast of Moses Lake. Perch Point is located off Road 6 SE, which is
right on the bottom of WA DeLorme 69, 6 and 7 or right at the top of page
53, 6 and 7. Lind Coulee is along WA 262 just east of O'Sullivan Dam at the
south end of the reservoir. WA DeLorme 53, A-6.5.

At Cold Springs NWR, Umatilla Co, OR on Jul 23, Craig and Judy Corder report
2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, an adult SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 50 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, 15 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 10 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 GREATER & 4
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 WILSON'S PHALAROPE, 20 BLACK-NECKED STILTS, 6 SPOTTED
SANDPIPERS, and 10 WILSON'S (formerly COMMON) SNIPE. On 26 Jul they added 2
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS and 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE. The refuge is about 5 miles
east of Hermiston. OR DeLorme 85, A-8.

At Mann Lake, Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID on Jul 24, Christine and Terry Gray
report many LESSER YELLOWLEGS, many WESTERN SANDPIPERS, a single WILSON'S
PHALAROPE, a breeding plumaged DUNLIN, 6 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, and a
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER. On 26 Jul Jane Westervelt added at least 1 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER, 2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, and a single SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.
On the 27th, Charles Swift reports these new species: 2 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, 25 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, and 10 LEAST
SANDPIPERS. From the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 south into town,
cross the Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge and immediately take the first
left (east) toward East Lewiston. Turn left (east) onto East Main Street
and go about a half mile to the flashing yellow lights. Turn right (south)
onto Lapwai (aka Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right on
Lindsay Creek Road (Nez Perce County Road 460) and follow it about 5 miles
to its terminus at Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east) onto Grelle Avenue and
just past the sharp right curve, turn left (east) onto East Powers Avenue
(aka Lapwai Road). Continue straight (east) past the grain towers to the
main parking lot. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.
