Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 7. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

On July 31 six ELEGANT TERNS were at the mouth of the Rogue River at Gold
Beach. The next day one was at Coos Bay. A GOLDEN-PLOVER was at New River
south of Bandon August 1. A BLACK-NECKED STILT was there August 6. A
PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was on the North Spit of Coos Bay August 3. A
FRANKLIN?S GULL was at Bandon August 6. On August 5 a MOCKINGBIRD was at
North Bend.

On August 6 over 650 SURFBIRDS were at the mouth of the Siuslaw River. The
thousands of CALIFORNIA and HEERMANN?S GULLS continue to be seen at Siletz
Bay. Many HEERMANN?S are also at the mouth of the Columbia River. On July 4
several GOLDEN-PLOVERS and 16 LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were at the mouth of the
Necanicum River at Gearhart.

At least 34 WHITE PELICANS are now on Sauvie Island. A dark MERLIN was near
the EE Wilson SWA August 4. On August 6 a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was at Fern
Ridge Reservoir.

On August 3 a SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen again at Gold Lake at Willamette
Pass. That day a FRANKLIN?S GULL was at Thief Valley Reservoir south of
LaGrande .
