Hello all,
My dad and I spent part of the afternoon searching a few spots in South King
County. First we headed to the "Thomas pond" posted recently by Marv
Breece. This is a great place right now; hopefully it won't be developed as
other similar ponds have been in this area. My totals at around 5pm were:
Western Sandpiper (34 juvs)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (2 juvs)
Least Sandpiper (21 juvs; 2 ads)
Spotted Sandpiper (1 ad)
At the Boeing north pond (along 54th Street I believe) were 5 Greater
Yellowlegs, 1 Least Sandpiper, and 2 Spotted Sands.
We then drove to the "grassy knoll" viewpoint on the east side of Kent
Ponds, along 164th Avenue. An Osprey was feeding on what appeared to be a
smallmouth bass on one of the snags. In the marsh were 8 Long-billed
Dowitchers, and a pair of adult Least Sandpipers. No Pectorals in sight.
