Subject: Barred Owl photo in "Birding"

For those of you ABA members, the photo of the Barred Owls (BDOW) in the
latest issue of "Birding" on page 340, was taken two summers ago by Joe
Furhman here on Bainbridge Island. The photo is of two juvenile BDOW.
Two weeks after the photo was taken, the bird on the left was captured
and banded. The adults of these two are still on territory, and produced
two more offspring this season, after taking last year off from breeding.

Incidently, Liz Kelly, one of the authors of the study discussed by the
author of the article, stopped taking data from Washington because there
was too much BDOW data to analyze.
