This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Thursday,August 7, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for a RED-NECKED STINT!

Other featured birds include Broad-winged Hawk, American Golden
Plover, Red Knot and Wilson's and Red-necked Phalarope.

Sightings for Thursday, August 7:
A RED-NECKED STINT was seen at 3:45pm and again at 5:40pm at the foot
of 104th Street in Boundary Bay. Also in the area was a Red Knot.

Reifel had 1 Red-necked and 2 Wilson's Phalaropes.

One Bank Swallow was at Iona Island and 3 Common Nighthawks were over
Scott Road and 68th Street in Surrey.

Wednesday, August 6:
One American Golden Plover was at the foot of 104th Street in Boundary
Bay.

The highlight of a boat trip around the Grebe and Bird Islets was 60
Surfbirds.

Tuesday, August 5:
The immature Broad-winged Hawk was seen on a pylon north of the
Dinsmore Bridge, close to the airport side of the river.
One Common Nighthawk was at Maplewood Mud Flats in North Vancouver.

Monday, August 4:
Two Marbled Godwits and 2 Whimbrel were at the Compensation Lagoon
along the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

Sunday, August 3:
An Alder Flycatcher was heard on the Riverview Hospital grounds at
Fern Terrace Road in Coquitlam.

A White-tailed Ptarmigan hen with 7 chicks was on Mount Cheam near
Chilliwack.
Two Eastern Kingbirds and 2 Green Herons were in a slew south of the
Swaneeset golf course in Pitt Meadows.

Three Purple Martins and a female Bullock's Oriole were seen at Blackie
Spit.
