Sunday Bird Walk: Legacy Marsh, upper Lantzville, August 10/03, 8:45
a.m. to noon

Weather: Cloudy and cool to start, then warmer through-out the morning.
Calm winds and about 20? C

Observers: Twenty-four Sunday birders.

Highlights: At the start of the walk, from the road, we had a number of
great sightings: female Western Tanagers, a Hairy Woodpecker, many
Cedar Waxwings and three Pileated Woodpeckers all putting on a great
show for us. We had long studied looks at a Merlin, on a snag across the
marsh, as he flew down twisting and turning to catch dragonflies and
flying back to his perch to eat them.
