My mother and I checked the Auburn-Kent area this afternoon between 1:15pm-3:30pm at a few locations previously reported and located the following highlights, including the juvenile Semipalmated Sandpiper that still lingers at the Thomas "pond near Auburn,where the bird was also observed by Marv Breece during our visit.

Thomas "pond"

1 Green-winged Teal
1 Peregrine Falcon(observed flying southwest to northeast over Hwy.167 and over the Thomas "pond" with recently captured prey,presumably a young duck then landing in an open field east of the Thomas "pond")
5 Lesser Yellowlegs
1 Semipalmated Sandpiper
24 Western Sandpipers
15 Least Sandpipers
3 Pectoral Sandpipers

Boeing Plant area detention "ponds(accessed from both 66th Ave. and 59th Ave. S. north of 212th Ave.)

5 female Hooded Mergansers
1 Osprey(observed on a snag within the "pond" complex with a pair observed to the east along West Valley Hwy. at a presumed nestsite)
1 Greater Yellowlegs
2 Lesser Yellowlegs
3 Spotted Sandpipers
1 Least Sandpiper

"old" Kent Ponds(GRNRA) (accessed from 64th Ave. S. and S 226th Street with views from the southern most observation tower)

17 Pied-billed Grebes
1 adult Green Heron
1 female Northern Pintail
2 Ruddy Ducks(presumed same pair than observed on the 9th of August)
1 Osprey
24 Am.Coots
3 Lesser Yellowlegs
1 Spotted sandpiper
1 Long-billed Dowitcher
3 Willow Flycatcher


On the way home while driving along I-5 just south of the King-Pierce Co. line near Milton a single Western Scrub Jay was observed flying over the highway.
