Hi Tweeters,

I had to throw the Pie Billed Grebes in here to make it sort of bird related. Actually last night I saw 2 Pie Billed Grebes fly into the Cavanaugh Ponds, next to where I live. This is only the second time I have seen them fly. The first time I startled one and instead of sinking away like they usually do, it flew over the beaver dam at the same location. A short hop flight for sure.

I also saw 2 river otter last night in the ponds. This is the second time I have ever seen river otters and the first time I have seen them there. I suspect they are just moving through but it would be great fun if they hung out for the salmon run.

Cavanaugh ponds are located at 174th St off of HWy 169 between Renton and Maple Valley. It is an unmarked King County park to the left, right after turning in to 174th. The ponds are unique and fed by Cedar River water. Sockeye salmon actually spawn in the ponds.
