Tweeters,

Sorry for such a late post, however you may know someone who would enjoy my
Accessible Birding field trip to Edmonds Public Pier and Marsh this Sunday, Aug.
17. These two locations are an incredible find for folks who must use assistive
walking devices or who need a short field trip (less than a mile total) on
smooth, solid surfaces with no inclines. Where else can you see peeps,
shorebirds and alcids under these accessible conditions that is so close to
Seattle?

I credit the birds for getting me out of the wheelchair to which I was confined
in 1997. Although I don't believe the birds can get anyone out of a wheelchair,
I do think that they can help those who already enjoy nature. It was (and still
is) a slow process for me: First sitting up at the window to watch the birds in
my yard and eventually trusting myself and others enough to try a field trip in
my outdoor wheelchair. I love to give the birds a chance to help someone else.

Interesting birds I've seen during the last two weeks at these sites include:

Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Canada Goose
Gadwall
Mallard
Surf Scoter
Harrier
Virginia Rail + juvenile
Killdeer
Western Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Heermann's Gull-up to 25
Glaucous-winged Gull
Common Tern
Pigeon Guillemot
Marbled Murrelet-up to 9 (two families, it appeared. 1 juvenile still there Mon.)
Rhinoceros Auklet
Belted Kingfisher
Northern Flicker + nest
Warbling Vireo
possible Violet-green Swallow-someone else saw them
Barn Swallow
BC Chickadee
Bushtit + nest
Marsh Wren
Song Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow
Red-winged Blackbird
American Goldfinch

Also:
Blue-eyed Darner
Cardinal Meadowhawk
8-spt. Skimmer

Lorquin's Admiral

There are 3 spaces left for Sunday. If you know someone who may be interested,
please give them my phone # (206) 362-6035.

Thanks,
Patricia Lott
