If any of you don't know (as I didn't) we have in our area a wonderful wildlife rehabilitation facility. Sarvey Wildlife Center came into my world today as I took my usual walk.

I spotted a mid-grown band tailed pigeon near the edge of the road at a neighbor's house. I put him back into the yard. After my 40-minute loop I saw him still there. I got an open box and brought him home. Upon closer inspection I could see an injured knee and a scraped side, probably from falling from the nest.

I took him to work with me today, feeding him regularly the gruel my father used on his rock doves and water from a dropper. He recovered and practiced flapping his wings in my hand. This afternoon I called Wild Birds Unlimited in Forest Park, they gave me the name and number of Sarvey.

I was willing to drive to Arlington...but imagine my surprise and pleasure when I found out some tender souled volunteer drives an "ambulance" around the Puget Sound area to pick up wounded wildlife...and one stop was just blocks away at a local vet's.

After work I took "Peepers" there, the staff was warm and friendly, scooping him up. I saw a brochure on the counter indicating how desperately this important facility needs volunteers and financial contributions.

Often it is too late or too difficult to use such services. What a gift when it can happen. Please keep them in mind--their phone number is 360-435-4817, P.O Box 2083, Everett, 98203-0083.
