Sunday Bird Walk: Englishman River Estuary, Shelly Road side, in
Parksville, August 17/03, 9:00 a.m. to Noon.

Weather: Sunny and warm about 22? C. with calm winds. The 12.5 foot
high tide was at 9:00 a.m.

Observers: Twenty-one Sunday birders.

Highlights: There were Warbling and Hutton?s Vireos, Ruby-crowned
Kinglets, Red-breasted Nuthatches, a Brown Creeper and a large number of
unidentified little brown birds bolting about high up in the tall trees
in the forest A flock of about twenty Northern Pintail Ducks flew over
us as we left the forested area. Thirty Black-bellied Plovers were
spotted roosting on the tide line with Western and Least Sandpipers
behind them on a sandspit at the Estuary. Two Greater Yellowlegs flew by
and called as they rose high up in the sky. We had a great look at a
Pacific-sloped Flycatcher in the parking lot just as we were leaving.
