We had a good day at the Edmonds pier and marsh yesterday. About 20 minutes
before high tide, a family of COMMON MURRE appeared maybe 300 yards off the pier.
Also, the juvenile MARBLED MURRELET I've seen for the last few weeks was still
there within 100 yards of the northwest corner, and an OSPREY seen regularly this
summer perched on the old pilings. Not too surprising, given the good fishing
conditions. A young man pulled in a 2-1/2' Chinook several feet away from us
while we watched! This, after his 1' Coho and 18" humpie, had not been seen
before by an admiring pier fisherman nearby. Be respectful of casting space
needs if you go.

At the Edmonds marsh, I was surprised to see a juvenile SHARP-SHINNED HAWK come
zooming in from the hill to the south by Station 4. And, a BAND-TAILED PIGEON
flew by just minutes later.

Otherwise, a pretty normal day for this time of year. Did not see the LONG-
BILLED DOWITCHER we had 8/11, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more shorebirds
now.
