Please give me good directions, your fellow birdwatchers will appreciate it.

On 17 Aug a PARASITIC JAEGER was found on Potholes Reservoir, Grant Co WA by
Dave Beaudette and Doug Schonewald. The bird was resting approximately 200
yards offshore from the dam face, slightly west and north of the outlet
spillway. The dam is along WA 262. WA DeLorme 53, A-6.

For Palouse birders, the 16 Aug report of a STILT SANDPIPER at the Steptoe
sewage treatment plant, Whitman Co WA, just southwest of the jct of WA 23
and US 195 is very interesting. Thanks to Bill Shelmerdine for reporting.

On 17 Aug Jane Westervelt found a MARBLED GODWIT at Mann Lake, east of
Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID. To get there from the north end of Lewiston,
follow US 12 south into town, cross the Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge
and immediately take the first left (east) toward East Lewiston. Turn left
(east) onto East Main Street and go about a half mile to the flashing yellow
lights. Turn right (south) onto Lapwai (a.k.a. Lindsay Creek) Road. When
the road forks stay right on Lindsay Creek Road (Nez Perce County Road 460)
and follow it about 5 miles to its terminus at Grelle Avenue. Turn left
(east) onto Grelle Avenue and just past the sharp right curve, turn left
(east) onto East Powers Avenue (a.k.a. Lapwai Road). Continue straight
(east) past the grain towers to the main parking lot. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

On 17 Aug Joe Taggart reports a light phase FERRUGINOUS HAWK on the Rathdrum
Prairie northwest of Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Co ID. Other than an
unconfirmed record from 2 decades ago, this is the only other sighting of
this species on the prairie. Thanks to Shirley Sturts for passing that
along.

Good numbers and good diversity of shorebirds are being reported region-wide
where ever there is some mud and water. Get out and see what's flying
through.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at
208.883.0943. If you see any of the birds mentioned in this report, be sure
to let me know.

Good birding.
