Tweets - I never got around to sending a report for last week, so this one
will have to do double duty.

It's been fairly quiet at Marymoor, especially today, though there is a
bit of warbler migration, and things are beginning to transition to fall
patterns. There's almost no singing going on, but call notes and chips
can lead to great, close sightings of birds.

Highlights:

The OSPREYS are very active. We haven't spent a whole lot of time
tracking the nest this year, but they apparently have fledged 3 young, and
there are lots of flying and hunting Osprey to be seen. Still activity at
the nest as well.

GREEN HERON have been very visible all up and down the slough. At least 1
last week appeared to be an immature.

YELLOW WARBLER numbers have been higher. Most of the summer we had only
one or two singing males, with very few females seen. Last week and this,
though, there were many more. This week a female was feeding a young bird
that was mostly gray fluff, but fledged.

PURPLE FINCH, with brilliant males both weeks, along with females and/or
immatures. This is just the beginning, I'm sure, since the Oregon Ash
trees are LOADED with seeds, and I expect there will be a PUFI invasion
this fall.

Plenty of WILLOW FLYCATCHES, including some which appear to be immatures,
remain at Marymoor. We had several WESTERN WOOD-PEWEEs last week, and at
least 1 today. Last week, we also had a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER, and
probably an OLIVE-SIDED, though it was too far away to be 100% sure.

BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK numbers are dropping fast, with only about 3 last
week, and maybe 1 today. All last week were immatures.

Last week we had 2+ RED-EYED VIREO and 2+ WARBLING VIREO, but no vireos
today. Swallows are also declining, with almost nothing but BARN SWALLOWS
left (last week, 1 VGSW and 3 CLSW, this week, no VGSW, and 3-4 CLSW that
I saw very late in the day). VAUX SWIFT numbers were high last week
(20+), but we had only 2 today.

Warbler migration has consisted of:
Orange-crowned Warblers 1-2 both weeks
Wilson's Warbler A couple last week
Townsend's Warbler 1 today
Black-throated Gray Warbler 3 last week, 2 today
Yellow Warbler As noted, numbers up
Additionally, we've seen Common Yellowthroat, but only immatures, probably
hatched in the park this season.

One fun highlight was finding a day roost of a BARN OWL northeast of the
"concert venue" in one of the Doug Firs near the trail. There are lots of
pellets under the tree, and if you stand in just the right spots, you can
see an owl roosting. It was there last Wednesday and Thursday, and again
today.

Last week, we had 56 species. Today, we squeeked out 50. Still at 122
for the year.
