Hello, this is the Audubon society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report

On August 16 a possible PHILADELPHIA VIREO was reported from the Indian Ford

seen. On August 19 a male BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and a REDSTART were at the
crossing.

On August 16 a MANX SHEARWATER was off Depoe Bay. A subadult male
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was near Grants Pass August 16.

Fall migration is well underway now with large flocks of swallows and an
increasing number of VAUX?S SWIFTS gathering at chimney roosts. During the
week three PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS were with the shorebird swarms at the
North Spit of Coos Bay. A large brown GRYFALCON was reported August 17 at
Seal Rock State Park. On August 17 a POMARINE JAEGER and a probable ELEGANT
TERN were off Depoe Bay. An ELEGANT TERN was at Astoria August 16. That day
a HORNED GREBE was at the Nehalem Sewage Ponds.

On August 16 a male REDSTART was at Ridgefield NWR in the same area where
BLACK PHOEBE has regularly been seen. One or more RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS
continue to be reported from the Refuge.
About 200 GREAT EGRETS are now on Sauvie Island, along with several hundred
CANADA GEESE. On August 17 a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was at the Fernhill
Wetlands in Forest Grove.

Several BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS are now at Fern Ridge Reservoir. On
August 18 a BREWER?S SPARROW and two SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were there.
That day at least 20,000 BARN SWALLOWS were flying over the reservoir. The
next day a SNOWY PLOVER was at Fern Ridge. On August 15 a SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER, and a BAIRD?S SANDPIPER were among the shorebirds at Lost Creek
Reservoir on the Rogue River.

On August 15 a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was with a flock of BUSHTITS at the
mouth of the Crooked River near Culver. It was still there August 20. On
August 15 a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, three BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS, and two
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were at Cold Springs NWR near Hermiston.

That?s it for this week
