After a largely quiet evening of birding with a couple friends today
at Discovery Park [in Seattle], we were rewarded with great looks at
a juv. Red-necked Phalarope at the eastern edge of the south beach.
It was hanging out close to shore among a large group of mostly
Bonaparte's & Mew Gulls [this is the end of the beach below the
bluffs, furthest from the lighthouse]. We were able to approach
quite close and get good looks at the wing pattern as it hopped over
incoming wake-waves, and to see the dark cap & facial markings.
