I spent several hours at Juanita Bay Park this afternoon, finding 46 species including my first Black-throated Gray Warbler at the park and my second Pacific-slope Flycatcher at the park. The bay was literally swarming with swallows. Everywhere that is covered in lilies (and that is a large area) was covered in mostly Barn Swallows, as well as Violet-Green SWALLOWS and Cliff Swallows. There was also at least one Vaux's Swift and a Northern Rough-winged Swallow. Several times a large amount of swallows (~100) would settle in a tree, only to be startled and all fly out at once. It was very impressive to see so many swallows all together.

Highlights between 4:30-7:00:

Center Boardwalk:

300+ Barn Swallow

25 Violet-Green Swallow

15 Cliff Swallow

1 Northern Rough-winged Swallow

1-2 Vaux's Swift

1 Sora - immature that has been active the past few weeks in mud off the center boardwalk

1 Pacific-Slope Flycatcher - seen briefly in willows halfway out center boardwalk

2 Osprey - calling while soaring over the bay

1 Double-crested Cormorant

25-30 WOOD Ducks

In a flurry of activity that included 11 species:

1 Black-throated Gray Warbler

1 Wilson's Warbler

1 Western Wood-Pewee

This past Sunday there was a Northern Pintail in the bay and several WESTERN TANAGERS on the west boardwalk.

Good Birding,
