Subject: Cowlitz + Lewis County Birding

Jim Pruske and I birded in Cowlitz and Lewis counties today. We started
at the town of Vader (Lewis Co.) where we observed 4 SCRUB JAYS and 3
MOURNING DOVES sitting on the wires as we drove through town on our way
to Ryderwood (Cowlitz Co.)

At the Ryderwood treatment ponds we had;
Northern Pintail - 2
Wood Duck - 12
Green Winged Teal - 2
Pileated Woodpecker - 1
Mourning Dove - 1

At the lake in Ryderwood we had;
BAIRDS SANDPIPER - 1
Solitary Sandpiper - 1
Green Heron - 2
Scrub Jay - 1
To get to the lake, drive into town and take a left on 3rd St. You will
come to the lake at the end of the road. The shorebirds we seen foraging
in the muddy areas on the right side of the lake.

Next we went to the Silver Lake Interpretive Center (Cowlitz Co.) where
we had;
Vaux's Swift - 2
Common Yellowthroat - several
Osprey - 4

Then it was on to the Sediment Dam (Cowlitz Co.), where we had;
Vaux's Swift - 7
Purple Martin - 5
Least Sandpiper - 2
Black Throated Gray Warblers - several
Wilson Warbler - 1
Common Yellowthroat - 2
Pacific slope Flycatcher - 1
Pileated Woodpecker - 1

Our last stop was at the Cowlitz River in Toledo (Lewis Co.) where we had;
Green Heron - 2
Osprey - 1
Vaux's Swift - 2
Wood Duck - 6
Scrub Jay - 2
